Trauma-Informed Yoga

Alight & Ascend therapy offers trauma-informed yoga as therapeutic exercise in addition to private and group yoga instruction. Yoga is a tens of thousands of years old spiritual ritual practice and comprehensive system for well-being, originating in northern India. Ancient eastern practices like yoga and three thousand year old Buddhist traditions have influenced the development of western psychotherapy and are the origin of what we understand today as 'mindfulness'.

Yoga is not a religion, but a practice of self-inquiry and inner exploration with the goal to discover and fulfill human potential.

Gentle trauma-informed yoga helps individuals explore their relationship to non-violence, kindness, compassion, and more through spirituality, breathwork, physical postures, and mindfulness. Regular yoga practice has been shown to help us reconnect and re-orient to our physical selves in order to heal from trauma, other root causes of anxiety, substance use disorders, and addiction. Trauma-informed yoga is recommended for those seeking recovery support and an embodied healing practice.
